Football League First Division 1934/35

The Football League First Division 1935/36 was the 44th season of the highest English football league . It began on August 31, 1935 and ended on May 2, 1936.

The AFC Sunderland won with eight points clear of the chasing Derby County and Huddersfield Town 's now sixth English championship. The "Black Cats" had the best attack, but of the first twelve teams the worst defense. Both newly promoted Brentford FC and Bolton Wanderers were able to keep the class; instead, Aston Villa and the Blackburn Rovers had to move into the Second Division . Aston Villa and the Blackburn Rovers were also the last clubs to experience relegation for the first time as founding members of the Football League after uninterrupted membership in the top English league. These two clubs should be replaced in the following season by the two second division promoted Manchester United and Charlton Athletic .

A total of 526 players were used, with Preston North End with 17 the fewest and Blackburn Rovers with 31 the most players in league games. 122 newcomers opposed 127 footballers who last came into play in the 1935/36 season. 28 players were able to play all 42 league games in their club.

    The Sunderland AFC championship team

The following list lists all the players who played in a league game for Sunderland AFC during the 1935/36 season. It must be noted that in English football a minimum number of games is usually required in order to receive the official championship medal. Since there was uncertainty about the specific regulation before the introduction of the Premier League, all players who presumably did not receive a championship medal due to their low contribution were marked with an asterisk (*). The number of appearances and the goals scored are given in brackets, lastly the number of all first division games up to that point. The Sunderland AFC players had played a total of 2,644 top division games at the end of the season.
