The 1977 Fischer Grand Prix took place in Vienna on October 24-30, 1977 . The field of participants in the single competition consisted of 32 players, that of the double competition consisted of 16 pairs. The tournament was endowed with $ 50,000.

In the individual, the Polish defending champion Wojciech Fibak reached the final, in which he was clearly defeated by the top seeded American Brian Gottfried in two sets with 1: 6, 1: 6. Last year's winners were even more successful in doubles: the South African duo consisting of Bob Hewitt and Frew McMillan successfully defended their title. They defeated Fibak and his Czechoslovak partner Jan Kodeš in the final .
