The Western & Souther Financial Group Masters 2008 was a tennis tournament that took place from July 27th to August 3rd, 2008 in Mason, Ohio near Cincinnati . It was part of the ATP Tour 2008 and was played outdoors on hard courts. This season it was the seventh of nine tournaments in the ATP Masters Series . No other tournaments were played in the same week. The tournament followed the Canada Masters , which took place the previous week.

Roger Federer was the defending champion in the singles, who failed this year as the first seeding listener in the round of 16 to Ivo Karlović . In the final, Brit Andy Murray, seeded eighth, won 7: 6 4 , 7: 6 5 against third seed Novak Đoković . With this, Murray won his third title in 2008 and his first in the Masters category . Jonathan Erlich and Andy Ram were successful in doubles last year. They could not defend their title and were defeated in the final to Bob and Mike Bryan 6: 4, 6: 7 2 , [7:10].

The field of participants in the single competition consisted of 56 players, that of the doubles competition consisted of 24 pairs. The total prize pool was $ 2,365,000 and the total financial debt was $ 2,615,000.

qualification

The qualification took place from July 25th to 26th, 2008. Four qualifying places were played, which entitle them to participate in the main draw of the tournament. There were also four lucky losers.
