The Medibank International in 2008 was a tennis tournament , which is from 7 to 13 January, 2008. Sydney took place. It was part of the ATP Tour 2008 and was played outdoors on hard courts. In the same week, the Heineken Open was played in Auckland , which, like Medibank International, was part of the International Series category .

Defending champion in singles was James Blake , who won the tournament for the past two years. This year he was eliminated in the first round against Fabrice Santoro . In the final the unseeded Dmitri Tursunow prevailed in two sets with 7: 6 3 and 7: 6 4 against the Australian Chris Guccione . This was the fourth title for Tursunow on the ATP Tour. Paul Hanley and Kevin Ullyett won doubles last year. This year Richard Gasquet and Jo-Wilfried Tsonga won the tournament. In the final, they won against the American brothers Bob and Mike Bryan in three sets.

The field of participants in the individual competition consisted of 32 players, that of the doubles competition consisted of 16 pairs. Total prize money was $ 440,000 and total financial liabilities were $ 465,000.

The qualification took place from January 5th to 7th, 2008. Four qualifying places were played, which entitle them to participate in the main draw of the tournament. There was also a lucky loser.
