Jun Woong-sun (born June 14, 1986 in Seoul ) is a former South Korean tennis player .

Career

Jun was already successful on the Junior Tour, so he played in three of the four Grand Slam tournaments. At Wimbledon he reached the quarterfinals in 2004. His best placement was a combined 4th place in October of the same year.

As early as 2001, he played a few tournaments among the professionals, mostly on the ITF Future Tour . From 2003 he was in the world rankings in both singles and doubles . A year later he was appointed to the South Korean Davis Cup team for the first time . He won his individual game in defeating Lebanon . In 2005 Jun won his first double title on the Future Tour and improved to 462nd place in the world rankings that year. While the ATP Challenger Tour often ended in the second round, in 2006 he won four of his eight double titles and both individual titles on the Future Tour. He also took part in the Asian Games that year and won the gold medal in the team competition and the bronze medal in the double competition. In the final he won the decisive double with Lee Hyung-taik against the Japanese Takao Suzuki and Satoshi Iwabuchi .

In 2007 in Auckland he survived the individual qualification and made his debut on the ATP World Tour . He lost his opening match against Dominik Hrbatý in straight sets. In March he reached his career high in doubles with the 253rd place. On the Challenger Tour, he moved into the finals in Caloundra alongside Chen Ti . There they defeated the Croatians Ivan Cerović and Vjekoslav Skenderović in straight sets. In 2008 he played in the Davis Cup in the world group. He lost in doubles and won the last insignificant singles against Michael Berrer . Overall, he has an individual balance of 9: 5 and a balance in doubles of 3: 3. In May he won his second double title on the Challenger Tour in Dresden alongside Daniel Brands ; in the individual, he achieved his best placement that month with 230th place. In Karlsruhe he managed to reach the finals again, after which he did not get past the semi-finals. He qualified on the World Tour in singles for the main draw in Casablanca , Newport and Indianapolis , but always failed in the first round. In Cincinnati he was the only time in the main draw of a Masters as a lucky loser .

In the following years Jun could not build on his successes in singles or doubles, which caused him to slip in the world rankings and to be more active on the Future Tour again. There he won another double title in 2013, 2014 and 2016 before ending his career in August 2016.
