The ferry rock in Trittenheim , located about 100 meters down the Moselle on the right bank of the Moselle next to one of the two Trittenheim ferry towers , is a rock massif made of slate , on which the ferries landed at Trittenheim at the time of the Moselle ferry. The rope of the Ponte was anchored in the rock, but the Fährfels was partly used as a slate quarry.

The Fährfels still owes its annual golden lacquer blossom to a 19th century emigrant from America .

The handball association Trittenheim called itself after the slate massif "HV Fährfels Trittenheim".
