Defending champion in the singles was Andy Roddick , but this time he was eliminated in the second round. In this year's final, like two weeks earlier in Indian Wells, Novak Đoković beat Rafael Nadal in three sets . This was his second triumph in Miami after 2007 and the 22nd ATP tournament victory in his career overall. He remained unbeaten in the current calendar year after having played four tournaments and has now won a series of 24 matches in a row. Lukáš Dlouhý and Leander Paes won the doubles title last year , but they did not compete together this year. Paes was able to win the tournament again with his new partner Mahesh Bhupathi . In the final they defeated Max Mirny and Daniel Nestor in a close match of three. For Paes and Bhupathi it was the second tournament win this year and a total of 25th joint title. It is also noteworthy that with Paes, Bhupathi and Mirny three of the four finalists of the previous year contested the final again.
