The 2009 LA Women's Tennis Championships was the 36th edition of the hard court tennis tournament in Carson , Los Angeles County , California , United States . It was part of the 2009 WTA Tour as a premier category tournament . The tournament took place from August 3rd to 9th, 2009 and was the third competition of the US Open Series , the preparatory series for the US Open .

The defending champion in singles was Dinara Safina and in doubles Chan Yung-jan and Chuang Chia-jung .

In the singles Flavia Pennetta won against Samantha Stosur 6: 4, 6: 3 and in the doubles Chuang Chia-jung / Yan Zi against Marija Kirilenko / Agnieszka Radwańska 6: 0, 4: 6, [10: 7].
