Nicole Vaidišová (born April 23, 1989 in Nuremberg ) is a former Czech tennis player .
Career
Born in Nuremberg, the Czech woman began playing tennis at the age of six under the guidance of her mother. Her coach became stepfather Alex Kodat. She later moved to Nick Bollettieri at the Tennis Academy and was already playing on the WTA Tour at the age of 14 . When she won her first title in Vancouver, Vaidišová was the sixth youngest tournament winner in Tour history at 15 years, 3 months and 27 days. She achieved her second tournament victory in Tashkent in October . She ended her first professional season with a record of 31 wins and eight defeats, also thanks to her two titles, in 77th place in the WTA world rankings .
In 2005 she continued her rise. Vaidišová won the tournaments in Seoul , Tokyo and Bangkok one after the other at the end of the year . The 16-year-old remained unbeaten for 18 matches in a row and was 15th in the world rankings after her second year on the tour. In her fifth tournament victory, Vaidišová was the sixth player in tennis history to do so at the age of 16. The other players in this series, including four later world number one, are Tracy Austin , Andrea Jaeger , Monica Seles , Jennifer Capriati and Martina Hingis .
In 2006 Vaidišová even made it into the semi-finals of the French Open after reaching the round of 16 at the Australian Open . On the way there she defeated the top seeded world number one Amélie Mauresmo and Venus Williams . In the semifinals she was only just defeated Svetlana Kuznetsova ; Vaidišová served with a score of 7: 5, 6: 5 to win the match, but lost the second set 6: 7 and the third then 2: 6.
In 2007 she reached the semifinals of a Grand Slam tournament for the second time at the Australian Open despite a toe injury - she was defeated by Serena Williams 6-7 and 4-6. At the French Open in 2007 she reached the quarter-finals, in which she was defeated by Jelena Janković . In 2009 Vaidišová won only eleven of their 28 games and fell far behind in the world rankings. From June onwards, she did not win a single match at WTA tournaments. She did not travel to the Australian Open in 2010, but started the season at an ITF tournament in Lutz. Even there, she lost in round one to number 230 in the world, Christina McHale .
The 20-year-old then announced her resignation in mid-March 2010. She justified her decision with a lack of motivation. The former number 7 in the world won over 2.7 million US dollars in prize money alone in her extremely short career. In addition, between 2005 and 2008 she played 14 games for the Czech Fed Cup team , in which she was the winner 12 times.
In mid-September 2014, however, she returned to the ITF Circuit . She received a wild card for the $ 75,000 tournament in Albuquerque and won her first round game against Sesil Karatancheva 6-3 and 6-4 . In the 2015 season she climbed back to 258th place in the world rankings. On July 20, 2016, she finally ended her career.
Vaidišová is half-sister of the American tennis player Toby Kodat .
