Nicholas James Bollettieri (born July 31, 1931 in Pelham , New York ) is an American tennis coach .

With his tough training methods, he has shaped many world-class players. The tennis professionals he has trained include Andre Agassi , Jim Courier , Tommy Haas , Jimmy Arias , Monica Seles , Anna Kurnikowa , Marija Sharapowa , Nicole Vaidišová and Sabine Lisicki . For a short time, Bollettieri was also Boris Becker's trainer .

Bollettieri served as a young man in the United States Army and was promoted to first lieutenant in the paratroopers. After the end of his military service, he first studied law at the University of Miami . Since he did not manage to successfully complete his studies, he began his career as a tennis coach in 1956. He was self-taught about tennis and initially gave coaching lessons on public tennis courts in New York for just $ 10. Since April 22, 2004 he is married to Cindi Eaton for the eighth time.

He is the founder of the Nick Bollettieri Tennis Academy , from which the IMG Academy emerged, whose 162,000 m² site is located in Bradenton on the west coast of Florida , approximately 80 kilometers south of Tampa . There, talented young people, whose parents have to raise large sums of money for this, are introduced to world-class tennis.

On March 1, 2010, Bollettieri was officially nominated for induction into the International Tennis Hall of Fame and inducted on July 12, 2014.
