In 1996 she won the Illinois Girl's High School Tennis State Championships in singles as a 10th grade student at the Latin School of Chicago . The following year in Sedona she made her debut at an ITF tournament, where she could not qualify for the main draw. At the US Open in 1998 she came into the main field via a wildcard and defeated Paola Suárez , then number 96 in the world rankings , in the opening round . Also in 1999 she received a wildcard for the US Open.
In 2000, a freshman at Stanford University , she won the singles at the NCAA Women's Tennis Championships and defended the title the following year. In 2001 she started her professional career. In 2005 and 2006 she won a WTA title in doubles. She played her last professional tournament in March 2010 in Monterrey .
