María Emilia Salerni (born May 14, 1983 in Rafaela ) is a former Argentine tennis player .
Career
Salerni started playing tennis at the age of four. In 2000 she won the women's junior title at Wimbledon and the US Open . In the same year she also took part in the tennis tournament of the Olympic Games in Sydney , where she was eliminated in the second round against Barbara Schett .
In her career she won 12 individual titles on the ITF Women's Circuit . In doubles she won two WTA and nine ITF titles. Between 2000 and 2008 she played 28 games for the Argentine Fed Cup team , in which she celebrated 16 wins.
After several injuries, María Emilia Salerni retired from professional tennis in 2009.
