Borstell is the name of an ancient nobility dynasty . It was named after the headquarters of the same name .

history

The family was first mentioned in a document in July 1209 with the brothers Otto and Berwardus de Borstele in a document from Margrave Albrecht II of Brandenburg .

The sex was wealthy exclusively in the Altmark. Borstell's possessions included the goods Bellingen , Borstel , Brunkau , Cobelack, Dahlen , Darenstedt , Döbbelin , Eichstätt, East and West Insel, Langen Salzwedel , Miltern , Nahrstädt , Ostheeren, Poritz , Schartau , Schindelhöfe, Schinne , Schorstädt, Groß - and Klein Schwarzlosen , Groß Schwechten , Stegelitz , Vielbaum , Windberge and Wollenrade. The Borstell were also employed in Mecklenburg.

On September 20, 1820, Marie Brummer's adoptive daughter of Wilhelmine von Borstell received the Prussian recognition of the nobility Borstell , when the family coat of arms was attached.

The Altmark Borstell are not to be confused with the Lower Saxon nobility of the Borstell family , which was named after the family house of the same name near Bützfleth and was first documented with Nicolaus de Borstele on January 16, 1312. This bore three (2, 1) red roses in the silver shield and three (silver-red-silver) ostrich feathers on the helmet with red-silver covers .
