Dahrenstedt is a district of the district town of Stendal in the southeast of the district of Stendal .
Location and townscape
The village is located in the Altmark , 2.4 kilometers south of Dahlen and about eight kilometers from Stendal, away from the major traffic routes. The area around Dahrenstedt is purely agricultural and runs at 50 meters above sea level. The 71 meter high "vineyard" rises south of the village. Dahrenstedt is a small street village with a construction zone of 5.3 hectares . The village street is lined with three and four-sided courtyards , with the residential buildings each facing the street. Unplastered bricks were used as building material. The buildings are often decorated with remarkable decorations. A special feature to be noted is the multiple knee- height houses.
history
The place was founded around 1160. It was called dorenstidde at that time . The initially Wendish village was laid out in a horseshoe shape. The Sankt-Ludgeri-Kloster Helmstedt had possessions here, which Count Siegfried von Osterburg received as a fief in 1238 . The village church Dahrenstedt was built in the 13th century .
A document from 1314 lists a knight Heinrich von Dornstede . From 1375 the von Bismarck family owned the place. In 1427 the Schadewachten family is mentioned with possessions in donvstete . Other spellings of the place name were darnsted (1442), dernstede (1448) and dornstadt (1540). Dahrenstedter property is recorded for the Commandery Werben for 1540 . The Stendal Cathedral and the St. Jakobi Church also received income from Dahrenstedt. In 1815 Dahrenstedt was incorporated into the Prussian district of Stendal. The place had 92 inhabitants in 1910, in 1964 there were 97 inhabitants. The incorporation to Dahlen took place on July 1, 1973. Dahlen in turn became a district of Stendal on September 1, 2010.
