Klein Möringen is a district of Stendal in the state of Saxony-Anhalt . Until December 31, 2009, Klein Möringen belonged to the municipality of Möringen in the administrative community of Stendal-Uchtetal .

history

The name “Morungen” was first mentioned in a document in 1201. The place is said to have originally been a Slavic settlement, later it is called a desolate place. In this place "Morungen" is said to have been a street with the name "Nippo" or "Nippof", from which the place Klein Möringen is said to have originated.

The ending of the place name indicates a north Swabian foundation and means "settlement on the moor". This could mean the moor or the marsh of the Uchte flowing past . Klein Möringen was inhabited by Wenden . The field mark "Wenddorf" still reminds of the Wendish residents.

In 1238, the owner of Duo Moringen, Majus et Minus was Count Siegfried von Osterburg , who received both places from the monastery of St. Ludgeri (Helmstedt) as a fief. In 1268 a knight named "Morunge" is mentioned for the first time. The von Gohre family, the von der Schulenburg family (1510) and later the von Reinhardt family owned the village and the manor .

On July 1, 1950, the communities of Klein Möringen and Groß Möringen merged to form the new municipality of Möringen.

Attractions

In the vicinity of the place there are still two witnesses of earlier history. West of the village in the forest, on the way to Deetz, there are two barrows and the remains of an old chapel, "Die Rassau", three kilometers west on the way from Steinfeld (Altmark) to Querstedt .

The field stone church of Klein Möringen dates from the 13th century. It is called "Christ Church".
