Old village church Röxe

Röxe is a district of the city of Stendal in Saxony-Anhalt . The district is located southwest of downtown Stendal, west of federal highway 189 .
history
It is believed that Röxe is of Wendish origin. In 1188 the mill was mentioned in the place as molendinum Rokenzhe . It was owned by the cathedral monastery in Stendal. Further mentions are 1197 uille rokinze and 1207 rokence . In 1322 the Duchess Agnes of Braunschweig authorized the cathedral monastery to raise grain in villa Rökez . In the Landbuch der Mark Brandenburg from 1375 the village is listed as Roytze . The village was named Röxe as early as 1687 .
Although a church had existed since around the 13th century, the village had no pastor of its own until the 17th century. With the construction of the railway at the end of the 19th century, the population increased significantly. In 1903 there was a major fire in the village, in which large parts of the village were destroyed. A new church was built in 1904/05, the old church has been used as a cemetery chapel ever since.
At a US - air raid towards the end of World War II , on February 22, 1945 300 people died in Röxe.
