The Luther Church is a Protestant church in the Röxe district in Saxony-Anhalt, which belongs to the city of Stendal . It belongs to the Stendal parish of the Evangelical Church in Central Germany .

Architecture and history

The church was built in 1904/05 in the neo-Gothic style. The design was created under the direction of senior building officer Oskar Hossfeld , the advisor responsible for church construction in the Prussian Ministry of Public Works in Berlin; the drafting was the responsibility of one of his employees, government builder Roger Slawski , who left the ministry in 1904.

The parish had previously used the old village church Röxe , which has served as a cemetery chapel ever since.

The hall church was built from brick. To the east of the nave is a small rectangular choir. The mighty church tower is inserted on the west side of the ship. The tower wears a pointed helmet that is flanked by four wight towers . The nave has buttresses , between which a pair of windows with gabled lintels are arranged. The double portal on the west side is framed in a rectangular shape with ornaments made of shaped stones , whereby the design is based on the model of the transept portal of St. Stephen's Church in Tangermünde .

The interior of the church is spanned by a stepped wooden beam ceiling. Originally there were polygonal roof houses that illuminated the interior. However, these superstructures were removed around 1970. Both in the basement of the tower and in the choir there is a groin vault . The ship has circumferential galleries. The interior furnishings are all from the time the church was built. The altar was provided by master stonemason Sonnenburg, Stendal. The altar crucifix and the pulpit were created by the Gustav Kuntzsch company , Wernigerode . Schlosser Helmbold, Stendal, made the chandeliers . The organ comes from the Richard Voigt organ building company, Stendal.
