Wilhelm Zahn (pastor)

Wilhelm Zahn (born July 25, 1848 in Rehfeld , † April 21, 1911 in Tangermünde ) was a German Protestant pastor and important local historian for the Altmark .

Life stations

After graduating from high school in Wittenberg , Zahn began studying theology at the University of Greifswald in the summer semester of 1870 , which was interrupted by his participation in the Franco-German War in Infantry Regiment No. 20. In Greifswald he became a member of the Greifswald fraternity Rugia . After the war he continued his studies at the University of Leipzig , where he also studied history. After passing the preliminary examination, he continued his studies at the University of Königsberg . After further training from 1874 at the Royal Preachers' Seminar in Wittenberg, he was pastor in Welnau , Gnesen / Posen district and then pastor in Aken / Elbe from 1875 to 1880 . In the winter of 1884, Zahn accepted the position as archdeacon in Tangermünde, which was interrupted at the end of 1885 by a brief activity as a priest in Mentone / France . After that he was pastor in Tangermünde from 1886. In 1908 he was elected pastor in Tangermünde and from 1910 was on the board of the local group of the Evangelical Union .

Zahn married Clara Kretzschmar on January 18, 1876. They had 7 children together: Clara (* 1876; † 1921), Katharina (* 1877), Lydia (* 1883), Ilse (* 1886), Wilhelm (* 1888; † 1888), Maria (* 1889) and Joachim ( * 1892; † 1895).
