history

Döbbelin is of Wendish origin. A first documentary mention comes from the year 1160. At this time the place was mentioned as dobbelin in a property register of the Ludgerikloster in Helmstedt . Other mentions include döbelin (1160), dobelin (1340), doblin (1375) and dobelin (1510) as place names . As a trace of an older settlement, a clay spherical amphora was found in a gravel pit near Döbbelin , which is dated to around 3500 BC.

From 1344 the von Bismarck family owned part of the town. It was one of the family's oldest possessions. In Landbuch Emperor Charles IV. Stendal is patrician Nikolaus von Bismarck led from that point as the owner of the village. From 1375 the Bismarcks received their income from Döbbelin, but initially they did not have a house there. In the Thirty Years' War also Döbbelin was devastated.

In 1730 Hans-Christoph von Bismarck inherited the place. He had the Döbbelin manor built in 1736 . In 1747 the village church in Döbbelin was converted into an estate church. In 1786, the von Bismarck family signed a long-term lease agreement with the local farmers, which freed the farmers from their dependency in the long term. From 1788 a teacher worked in the village. The first school house was built next to the church in 1863. In 1910 Döbbelin had 141 inhabitants.

From 1963 the manor house housed apartments, consumer goods, post office, kindergarten, a doctor's practice and a library. Since 1991 the manor house has been used privately by the von Bismarck family again.

Döbbelin was an independent municipality until June 30, 1973 and was then incorporated into Insel. On September 1, 2010, Insel and thus Döbbelin were incorporated into Stendal.
