Döbbelin village church

The village church Döbbelin is the Protestant church of the village Döbbelin in the Altmark in Saxony-Anhalt .

Architecture and history

The church was built in the second half of the 12th century as a hall church made of field stones in the Romanesque style . On the south side of the nave there is a round arch portal from the Romanesque period. Two walled up arched windows can be seen on the north side of the nave. In this area there is also the old, wide joint scratching. At first, the church apparently did not have a tower, although one was prepared on the west side on the ground floor, as indicated by the thicker walls in this area.

Nave

In 1747 the nave was extended to the east and the windows enlarged. The current half-timbered tower was probably built during this period. At the same time, a patronage box was added. The village church was to be transformed into the manor church of the Bismarck manor house in Döbbelin , which was expanded in 1736 . In 1999 a mourning hall was built in place of the patronage box .

The interior of the church is spanned by a flat, plastered ceiling. The interior is simple. The stalls on the north side and the west gallery with the curved parapet probably date from 1747. The pulpit altar was built at the beginning of the 19th century. In the church there is also a simple baptismal angel carved from a plank . Two old bronze bells from 1442 and 1754 as well as a tombstone fragment from the 17th century with the profile of Henning von Rundstedt are remarkable .

On the ground floor of the tower there is a crypt of the von Bismarck family beneath a domed groin vault made of bricks .
