Ludwig Friedrich Hans Christoph von Borstell (born November 20, 1759 in Groß Schwarzlosen (Stendal district); † May 13, 1846 in Berlin ) was a royal Prussian major general and most recently Landwehr leader in the Hirschfeld corps.

His parents were Friedrich Wilhelm Ludwig Heinrich von Borstell (* November 3, 1732 - October 10, 1801) and his wife Anna Maria von Pieverling (* August 25, 1733 - February 1, 1769). His father was a Prussian lieutenant colonel a. D. and Mr. on Groß-Schwarzlosen.

Life

On September 27, 1770 he came to the Knight Academy in Brandenburg . In 1774, he came as Corporal Corporal in the Infantry Regiment. 18, . In the War of the Bavarian Succession he fought in the battles near Burkersdorf and Neustadt. On July 1, 1779 he became an ensign, on February 9, 1783 Seconde-Lieutenant. In 1789 he wrote a remarkable essay on the use of riflemen in the infantry regiments. On December 29, 1789 he received thanks from King Friedrich Wilhelm II and on May 31, 1790 he was transferred to the Upper War College, for which he received a salary of 800 thalers. On December 12, 1793, he joined Infantry Regiment No. 48 as a captain and company commander . In 1793/94 he fought in the First Coalition War in the Battle of Kaiserslautern and the battles near Trippstadt and Moorlautern. On March 2, 1794, he was promoted to major. On May 18, 1804, he was transferred to Infantry Regiment No. 10 , where he was commander of a grenadier battalion 10/41. It was composed of the grenadier companies of regiments No. 10 and No. 41 . He was promoted to colonel on June 19, 1805.

In the fourth coalition war he fought in the battle of Jena . From August 28, 1807, he was made inactive with half his salary (from August 1, 1807), but he was assured that he would be reinstated soon. A request from April 17, 1809 was negative, on May 14, 1810 he was listed for employment with the gendarmerie. But on May 5, 1813, he joined the Hirschfeld Corps as a brigadier in the Landwehr. During the Wars of Liberation he fought in the Battle of Hagelberg and in the sieges of Wittenberg and Magdeburg. For Hagelsberg (Lübnitz) he received the Iron Cross 2nd class on September 24, 1813 . On April 2, 1815, he received his dismissal with 800 thaler board and on 6 April 1815 nor the character of major general. He died on May 13, 1846 in Berlin and was buried on May 17, 1846 in the garrison cemetery.
