Gustavo Luza (born October 11, 1962 in Buenos Aires ) is a retired Argentine tennis player .

Life

Luza became a professional tennis player in 1985 and initially played on the ATP Challenger Tour . In the following year he stood at the side of his compatriot Gustavo Tiberti twice in the final of a double tournament on the ATP World Tour . After taking part in the finals alongside Guillermo Pérez Roldán in Geneva , he won a double title on the ATP World Tour for the first time in 1989, together with Christian Miniussi he won in Barcelona . Overall, he was able to win five double titles in the course of his career, four more times he was in a double-final. He reached his highest ranking in the tennis world rankings in 1988 with position 319 in singles and in 1990 with position 37 in doubles.

In singles, he was never able to qualify for a Grand Slam tournament. His best double result was the two-time round of 16 participation at the French Open .

Luza played three doubles games for the Argentine Davis Cup team between 1989 and 1990 . In the 3-2 quarter-final win against Germany in 1990, he lost alongside Javier Frana in doubles against Eric Jelen and Michael Stich , which was his only defeat.

After retiring from professional sport, he was team boss of the Argentine Davis Cup team from 2002 to 2004.
