The ATP tournament in Cologne (officially Cologne Cup or Cologne Open ) is a former men's tennis tournament that was held once in 1992 in Cologne . It was played on outdoor clay courts. The event replaced the Geneva Open in Geneva , but as early as the 1993 season, the Cologne tournament in the tour calendar was replaced by the tournament in Bucharest .

As early as the 1970s and 1980s, an international tennis tournament took place in Cologne, the Cologne Grand Prix (Cologne Grand Prix) . The event's winners list includes such famous names as Björn Borg , Ivan Lendl and Jimmy Connors . However, no player could win the individual competition more than once, in doubles the South African Frew McMillan is the record holder with three wins. In contrast to the tournament in the 1990s, the Cologne Grand Prix was held in the hall; the first two times on carpet, from 1978 onwards the game was played on a hard court.

In 2011 there were efforts to bring another ATP tournament to Cologne. In RheinEnergieStadion should prepare for the US Open , a hard court tournament arise. The already unlikely project was never put into practice.
