Florin Segărceanu (born March 29, 1961 in Bucharest ) is a former Romanian tennis player . From 2018 he will be the captain of the Romanian Fed Cup team .

Life

Segărceanu reached the quarter-finals at the junior tournament of the French Open 1979, where he was subject to Ramesh Krishnan . At the same time he competed with the professionals in doubles, where he reached the second round with his partner Andrei Dîrzu . His first success was in 1981 when he made it to the semi-finals at the indoor tournament in Sofia . He played two more semifinals in 1983 in Tampa and Venice . He was never able to win an individual title on the ATP Tour . Together with Nick Saviano , he entered the list of winners of the tournament in Cologne in 1983 . This remained his only success on the ATP Tour. He reached his highest ranking in the tennis world rankings in 1983 with position 73 in singles and 1984 with position 49 in doubles.

His best individual result in a Grand Slam tournament was reaching the second round at the French Open and the Wimbledon Championships . In the doubles competition, he reached the second round of the French Open twice. In mixed he reached the round of 16 of the French Open 1983 on the side of Lucia Romanov .

Segărceanu played 38 singles and 25 doubles games for the Romanian Davis Cup team between 1978 and 1991 . He won 23 of his singles and 15 of his doubles. His greatest successes with the team were two quarter-finals in the world group in 1981 and 1983. At the Universiade between 1979 and 1985, he competed in singles, doubles and mixed for Romania. He won four gold, one silver and two bronze medals.
