Stefan Eriksson (born October 17, 1963 in Enköping ) is a former Swedish tennis player and coach.

Life

Eriksson began his professional career in 1985. As a qualifier, he reached the last sixteen at the clay court tournament in Boston , in which he was clearly defeated by Mats Wilander . Two weeks later he reached the double quarterfinals of Indianapolis with Mikael Pernfors after both slipped into the tournament via a wildcard . He had his greatest individual success on the ATP World Tour in 1986 at the tournament in Cologne , when he defeated, among others, Wally Masur and Anders Järryd and was only slightly inferior to his compatriot Jonas B. Svensson in the final. However, he could not maintain this level. In the same year he still managed to win against the favored Horst Skoff in Toulouse and Milan Šrejber in ATP Vienna ; reaching the quarter-finals in Basel (with a win over Slobodan Živojinović ) in the same year should be his last success on the ATP Tour. He won his only title in 1987 at the Challenger tournament in Cherbourg , where he defeated Jim Pugh in two sets in the final . His best double result was participation in the semi-finals in Toulouse 1985 at the side of Peter Lundgren . He reached the highest ranking in the tennis world rankings in 1987 with position 72 in singles and 1986 with position 110 in doubles.

His best individual result at a Grand Slam tournament was qualifying for the French Open , Wimbledon and the US Open . However, he could not win any of his four Grand Slam appearances. Among other things, he was defeated by Stefan Edberg at Wimbledon in 1987 with no chance with 0: 6, 0: 6, 0: 6. In doubles he appeared in 1986 on the side of his compatriot Magnus row ; the game against Torben Theine and Srinivasan Vasudevan was lost in straight sets.

After the end of his professional career, he played on the Seniors Tour, where he achieved his best placement in late 2000 with position 17. He works as a trainer at the Bavarian Tennis Association and trained Matthias Bachinger , Dieter Kindlmann and Philipp Petzschner , among others . He also worked for a short time with Florian Mayer .
