The Bavarian Tennis Association (BTV) is the umbrella organization for Bavarian tennis clubs and as such a member of the umbrella organization of all regional tennis associations, the German Tennis Association (DTB) . In Munich -based association represents just under 300,000 members over 20% of the members of German tennis clubs, making it the largest association in the DTB and the third largest sports association in Bavaria.
There are 9,096 tennis courts available to members, 8,388 of which are outdoors. Around 12,700 teams take part in the annual match in summer and around 2,000 in winter (as of 2019).
history
In June 1947, representatives of Bavarian tennis clubs met to regulate the game operations that had not been regulated until then. At that time, the Bavarian State Sports Association had 3,700 members in 71 clubs in the tennis division. At the founding meeting on April 24, 1948 in Munich, Willibald Funk was elected first chairman of the BTV.
Division into tennis districts
After the merger of Upper Bavaria and Munich in spring 2013, the Bavarian Tennis Association is divided into seven tennis districts with the following clubs (according to the 2019 inventory):
- Upper Bavaria - Munich: 535 clubs (26.55%)
- Swabia: 346 clubs (17.17%)
- Middle Franconia: 308 clubs (15.29%)
- Lower Bavaria: 266 clubs (13.20%)
- Lower Franconia: 220 clubs (10.90%)
- Upper Palatinate: 170 clubs (8.43%)
- Upper Franconia: 152 clubs (7.54%)

Successes at the German team championships
Until the 2019 season, the Bavarian Tennis Association regularly participated in the respective competitions of the DTB regional associations with women's and men's teams as well as senior and youth teams.
Gentlemen (Great Meden Games)
At the Meden Games , which have been held since 1927, Bavaria has so far won the title 25 times (1948, 1951, 1955–57, 1962–63, 1970, 1972–73, 1976–81, 1989–92, 1994, 1998, 2001, 2010, 2013).

Media work
The official communication organs of the BTV are the magazine Bayern Tennis and the association's internet portal. Bayern Tennis has a circulation of around 20,000 copies that are sent out nine times a year to subscribers and all member clubs. The BTV regularly sends newsletters to different target groups and operates various social media channels.
TennisBase / State Performance Center Oberhaching
In Oberhaching in the Munich district , the BTV has had its own state performance center (LLZ) with a sports boarding school since 1998 (since 2009). More than 20 children and young people, who mainly belong to the Bavarian top-class team, train and live here. The TennisBase is also the men's federal base of the German Tennis Association and thus a training facility for many internationally successful top players and Davis Cup players. With a volume of around 13.5 million euros, the Oberhaching TennisBase will be expanded significantly between 2018 and 2020. Construction phase 1 (including a new two-field hall, small sports hall with athletics area, four new residential apartments) was put into operation in autumn 2019. Construction phase 2 includes the new BTV association headquarters and is to be opened in spring 2020.
Tennis camps
BTV Sport, Marketing and Service GmbH, a 100% subsidiary of BTV eV, offers tennis camps with training and LK tournaments together with the sports tour operator Traveling to Success / Soccatours .
