The Guarujá ATP tournament (officially Guarujá Open ) was a men's tennis tournament that was held from 1982 to 1992 in Guarujá , Brazil . The first competition took place on carpeted floors, but from 1982 onwards the game was played on clay courts; In 1983 the decision was made to go for outdoor hard courts. The tournament was initially part of the Grand Prix Tennis Tour ; for the 1982 season it was demoted to a Challenger event . Most recently, the event was part of the ATP World Series , the predecessor of the ATP World Tour 250 .

In the 1991 season , in addition to the Guarujá Open , which took place in February, another tournament took place in Guarujá in November, the Philips Open , also on outdoor hard courts. The last edition of the Guarujá Open in 1992 took over the date of the Philips Open .

Local players were particularly successful at this tournament; Only twice in the tournament's history has there been a final without Brazilian participation. Local hero Luiz Mattar is the record holder of the tournament with three consecutive tournament victories. In doubles, no player managed to win the competition more than once.
