Ingo Buding

Ingo Buding (born January 9, 1942 in Lovrin , Romania ; † March 13, 2003 in Bandol , France ) was a German tennis player .

Ingo Buding belongs to the Banat Swabian ethnic group . After the Second World War he came to Germany from Romania as an ethnic German. Here he began a successful tennis career.

In 1970 he led a German Davis Cup team into a final for the first time as captain and player . In Cleveland , the final venue, the Germans were clearly defeated by the US opponents 5-0. In total, he played 51 games in the Davis Cup between 1961 and 1970.

For his successes he was honored by the German Tennis Association (DTB) with the gold badge and on November 23, 1970 with his Davis Cup colleagues Wilhelm Bungert and Christian Kuhnke with the "Silver Laurel Leaf". The Silver Laurel Leaf was (including twice in a Davis Cup team) awarded to date only seven women and five men on.

Ingo Buding was the brother of Edda Buding , who was also a successful tennis player and was also one of the bearers of the silver bay leaf. The tennis player Ilse Buding , who is also active in international tournaments, was another sister.

Ingo Buding died at the age of 61 in Bandol in the south of France.
