Bandol wine region

The 1,419 hectare Bandol wine region has had the status of an Appellation d'Origine Contrôlée (AOC for short) since November 11, 1941 . The vineyards of the municipalities of Bandol, Le Beausset , La Cadière-d'Azur , Le Castellet , Évenos , Ollioules , Sanary-sur-Mer and Saint-Cyr-sur-Mer are authorized within the AOC. The locations face south. The annual sunshine duration is approx. 3000 hours, the amount of precipitation is approx. 600 mm / year. Both white wine, red wine and rosé wine are grown.

  • Red wine: Bandol's red wine consists of 50–95% Mourvèdre grapes . The Grenache , Cinsault , Syrah and Carignan varieties are also permitted. The proportion of the last two types together is max. 20%. Due to the large proportion of Mourvèdre, the wines are strong and rich in ripe tannins. The wine can be stored for 10 to 20 years. At the winemaker's, the red wine spends at least 18 months in oak barrels.
  • Rosé wine: The Bandol rosé wine consists of 10 (20% from 2014) to 95% of the Mourvèdre grape variety. In addition, the red varieties Grenache, Cinsault and the white varieties Bourboulenc , Clairette Blanche and Ugni Blanc are permitted. In the case of the white varieties, the proportion of each variety is limited to max. 10% and the sum of all white varieties to a max. 20% fixed.
  • White wine: The white wine from Bandol is made from the grape varieties Bourboulenc , Clairette Blanche and Ugni Blanc . In addition, the varieties Marsanne blanche , Sauvignon Blanc , Sémillon and Vermentino (also called role) are permitted to a small extent .
