Le Pradet is a French municipality with 10,249 inhabitants (at January 1, 2017) in the Var department in the region of Provence-Alpes-Cote d'Azur . It belongs to the canton of La Garde in the arrondissement of Toulon .
geography
Le Pradet is eight kilometers from Toulon and 13 kilometers from Hyères . The municipality borders on Toulon to the west, La Garde to the north and Carqueiranne to the east .
The northern part of the municipality consists of a plain called Le Plan . Towards the south, the bay of Toulon opens on a rocky coast with steep cliffs (Le Pin de Galle, La Plage de Monaco, Les Bonnettes, La Garonne, Les Oursinières with its port), which in the southeast at the eastern end of the bay, the Cap de Carqueiranne , ends.
history
Until 1894, Le Pradet was part of the neighboring municipality of La Garde. On June 18, 1894, the place became independent.

Personalities
- Gustave Zédé (1825-1891), French engineer who designed plans for the first French submarine, the Gymnote , lived in Costebrune.
- Hélène de Mandrot (1867–1948), Swiss art organizer. Le Corbusier built the Villa Mandrot for her in Le Pradet in 1929 .
- Carlo Sforza (1872–1952), Italian politician, found refuge near Cap Brun after Mussolini came to power . There he received famous French writers: Paul Claudel , Paul Valéry and Georges Bernanos .
- Raimu (1883-1946), French actor with the real name Jules Auguste César Muraire , owned an estate in the municipality.
- Baroness Marie-Anne von Goldschmidt-Rothschild (1892–1973), daughter of the German industrialist Fritz von Friedlaender-Fuld and wife of Rudolph von Goldschmidt-Rothschild, settled in Vaisseau in 1926 . She conducted a lively correspondence with Rainer Maria Rilke , was an art collector, writer and painter under the pseudonym Marianne Gilbert . In Le Pradet she received the painters Charles Camoin and André Dunoyer de Segonzac . Winston Churchill , himself an amateur painter, came to Vaisseau several times between the two world wars .
- Christiane Rochefort (1917–1998), French writer and feminist, owned a house in San Peyre .
- Gilbert de Goldschmidt (1925–2010), film producer, son of Baroness Goldschmidt-Rothschild.

- The film Les démons de l'aube (1945) by Yves Allégret with Simone Signoret was shot in the municipalities of Carqueiranne and Le Pradet.
