Riboux is a commune with 46 inhabitants (at January 1, 2017) in the Var department in the region of Provence-Alpes-Cote d'Azur . It belongs to the canton of Saint-Cyr-sur-Mer in the arrondissement of Toulon .

geography

Riboux lies in a narrow side valley of the Massif de la Sainte-Baume. The landscape is characterized by forest and rocky ridges. The Vignole, the mountain stream that flows through the municipality, forms gorges and, together with numerous small watercourses, flows into the Cuges valley. The lake that used to exist there was drained in the 18th century.

Although the place belongs to the Var department, it has a postcode, the first digits of which refer to the Bouches-du-Rhône department , on whose border Riboux lies.

history

The place was first mentioned as Ribols in 984 . He belonged to the reign of the Abbey of Saint-Victor de Marseille .

According to the municipal statute of the tiny community, the mayors and their deputies are alternately appointed from one of the three long-established families.
