Saint-Cyr-sur-Mer is a French municipality on the Mediterranean coast between the towns of Bandol and La Ciotat in the west of the Var department in the region of Provence-Alpes-Cote d'Azur .
The municipality, which consists of the main town of Saint-Cyr, the main port of Les Lecques and the small port of La Madrague, has 11,761 inhabitants (as of January 1, 2017) on 2115 hectares. It belongs to the canton of Le Beausset in the arrondissement of Toulon .
history
The Saint-Cyr-sur-Mer area has been inhabited since prehistoric times. The settlement experienced a high point in the Romanesque period , from which numerous archaeological findings originate, which can now be viewed in the Romanesque Museum Tauroentum .
In 1825, Saint-Cyr-sur-Mer broke away from La Cadière-d'Azur and became an independent municipality.
In 1913, on the occasion of the commissioning of the first water supply network in Saint-Cyr, a scaled-down replica of Bartholdi's Statue of Liberty was erected on the Grande Place .
