history
At the time of the Romans the place was called Citharista .
The place only became independent in 1429. At that time, at the insistence of the residents, the area of Ceyreste, to which the place had previously belonged, was divided and an independent community La Ciotat was established. From then on, the community developed rapidly: fortifications were built and a church was built. Trade developed well as a result of the construction of a port.
