Cap Canaille is located in the Bouches-du-Rhône department in France and is the highest cliff in the country with a height of 362 meters, together with the Grande Tête (399 meters) . The rocks are also known as Falaises de Soubeyrannes .

The word '' canaille '' is from the Latin Canalis mons derived and translated means '' Mountain of Water '', following by the Romans laid aqueducts for water supply.

Cap Canaille is located on the Mediterranean Sea in a bay on the Calanque coast between Cassis and La Ciotat . The major cities of Marseille and Toulon are 30 kilometers east and 40 kilometers west of the cliff, respectively. The distance to Aix-en-Provence in the north is 50 kilometers. The cliff can be reached via a narrow and winding coastal road, the Route des Crêtes . From there you have a great view of the sea.

geology

The rock consists of a conglomerate of sandstone and limestone from the Turonian . On the top there is marl from the Cenomanium .
