The precision sport Jeu Provençal (Provencal "Jo de boulo"), also called "les 3 pas" (3 steps) or "la longue" (the or the long) in France , is a game of boules that is played in the French province Provence arose. Like Boule Lyonnaise , from which it was created, it is played with a run-up. It is precisely this approach that makes the game more "sporty" than its later modification, pétanque .

It is played mainly in the following regions and departments of France: Bouches-du-Rhône , Gard , Vaucluse , Alpes-de-Haute-Provence , Hautes-Alpes , Alpes-Maritimes , Var , Hérault , Aude , Midi-Pyrénées , Center- Val de Loire , Région Parisienne , Nord and Franche-Comté .

Worldwide, Jeu Provençal is organized in the Fédération Internationale de Pétanque et Jeu Provençal .

matchfield

The rules of the game are simpler than those of Boule Lyonnaise. At 18 by 24 m, the playing field is about twice as large as the field in pétanque , which arose from the Jeu Provençal (see also Boulodrome ). In Provence one speaks of the "Formula 1" of the boules game.

Teams

Jeu Provençal is mainly played as a triplet (3 players), there are also the formations Doublette (2 players) and Tête à tête (1 player). In the triplet each player has 2 balls, in the other two formations 3 balls.

target

As with all ball games, the goal is to place your own balls closer to the target ball than the opponent's. In every shot, the best placed balls count as points. The size and weight of the balls and the target ball are specified, see table competition balls . The game is played up to 13 points.

The game

Before his throw, the player must announce whether he will shoot or lay. When laying, he takes a step out of the throwing circle and then throws his ball in one swing as soon as he only stands on one leg. This position must be maintained until the ball comes to a stop. The ball must then be located within a radius around the target ball. The same applies to shooting, but three steps must be taken and it is imperative to hit another ball.

If the throw is invalid, the situation as it existed before is reconstructed; so this is like the rules of billiards .
