Target ball

Boules ball

Target ball is the official but rarely used name for the cochonnet or pig in boules .

In French boules, “but” (target), “bouchon” or “cochonnet” or “petite” ( Boule Lyonnaise ) are used. In Germany, “piggy”, “pig” or regional terms such as “pig” or “pillar” are used in “translation” of cochonnet. Literally translated, cochonnet means piglet.

The term cochonnet is supposed to be derived from the fact that the target balls were previously made from pig bones.

In boccia the target ball is called “Pallino”, in bowls “Jack” or “Kitty”.

The target balls differ from one another in terms of texture and size, see competition balls .

In precision shooting (fr. Tir de précision) the balls to be hit are also referred to as target balls.
