Peypin is a French municipality with 5495 inhabitants (at January 1, 2017) in the department of Bouches-du-Rhône in the region of Provence-Alpes-Cote d'Azur .

geography

The municipality is located 26 kilometers northeast of Marseille and between Gardanne and Aubagne . Neighboring towns are La Destrousse (two kilometers), Auriol (four kilometers), Cadolive (eight kilometers) and Saint-Savournin (ten kilometers).

The place lies between the Massif du Garlaban and the Chaîne de l'Étoile .

history

In the 12th century, the Lord of Auriol built a castle and became lord of the village, although this led to conflicts with the Abbey of Saint-Victor . The castle was destroyed in the 16th century. In 1870 Peypin was split off from the municipality of La Destrousse .
