Sollies-Pont is a French municipality with 11,149 inhabitants (at January 1, 2017) in the Var department in the region of Provence-Alpes-Cote d'Azur . It is the capital of the canton of the same name in the arrondissement of Toulon .
geography
Solliès-Pont is located in the west of the Gapeau valley at the foot of the Fôret de Font Blanche , an eastern branch of the Massif de la Sainte-Baume . The cities of Toulon in the southwest and Hyères in the southeast are each about 20 kilometers away. The fertile Gapeautal is criss-crossed by a canal and sluice system that is used to irrigate the cultivated areas.
history
Solliès-Pont was part of the former municipality of Solliès , which in 1799 was divided into the municipalities of Solliès-Ville , Solliès-Pont , Solliès-Toucas and Solliès-Farlède .
Attractions
The 16th century castle of Solliès-Pont Château des Saporta was renovated in the 19th century. The Corps de Logis has two mighty round towers, the main courtyard is framed by two wings, which are guarded at their ends by two massive round towers with machicolations . The roofs are covered with slate. There is a large park around the castle with a castle pond.

Vineyards, olive groves, vegetable fields and orchards characterize the agriculturally used area. Solliès-Pont is especially famous for its figs and cherries.
