La Cadiere d'Azur ( Provence La Cadiera or La Cadiero ) is a commune with 5550 inhabitants (at January 1, 2017) in the Var department in the region of Provence-Alpes-Cote d'Azur .

La Cadière-d'Azur is a fortified village on a hill covered with vineyards opposite Le Castellet .

history

Charles IX came with his mother Catherine de Medici on his trip to the south of France (1564–1566) to La Cadière. The aim of the trip was to unite France behind the then underage king. Karl was accompanied by important representatives of the kingdom: his younger brother, who later became King Henry III , was part of the tour company . , his cousin, who later became Henry IV , and the cardinals Charles I. de Bourbon and Charles de Lorraine-Guise .
