Pierrefeu-du-Var is a commune in the French department of Var in the region Provence-Alpes-Cote d'Azur . The place belongs to the arrondissement of Toulon and the canton of Garéoult . Pierrefeu has 6045 inhabitants (as of January 1, 2017) on an area of 58.36 km².
location
Pierrefeu lies on a plain on the western edge of the Massif des Maures , just under 20 kilometers north of Hyères and the Mediterranean coast . The highest peaks in the municipality are the Castellas (445 m), the Peyrol (350 m) and the Barry (149 m).
The historic center is grouped picturesquely around a prominent hill, on the summit of which the old chapel of the Holy Cross ( Chapelle Sainte Croix ) rises and from where one has an excellent view of the plain and the surrounding mountains.
history
Pierrefeu is an old medieval village that was first mentioned in the 11th century. The original name was Petrafoci and developed over time via Petrafog and Rochafog to today's Pierrefeu.

Pierrefeu is a center of agriculture, especially wine growing . Wines with the AOC " Côtes de Provence " seal of quality are produced here.
