Glossalgia (from the Greek glossa = tongue and algos = pain) is pain on the surface of the tongue. It is primarily a symptom of anemia due to vitamin B 12 deficiency, known as pernicious anemia . The cause can also lie in syndromes of various kinds or be psychosomatic , see also burning tongue .
