Carles Costa i Masferrer (born April 22, 1968 in Barcelona ) is a former Spanish tennis player . He is not related to his compatriot Albert Costa .

Career

Costa won six individual titles between 1992 and 1994, all on clay, and reached a final seven more times. His greatest achievement was winning the 1992 title in Barcelona after beating Magnus Gustafsson in the final . There are also five tournament wins and three finals in doubles . He also won these titles on clay. On May 18, 1992, he achieved his best rating in the ATP ranking with tenth place . In Grand Slam tournaments he reached twice, in 1992 and 1993 , at the French Open the second round and in 1992 at the US Open . In doubles he managed the best result in his career at the French Open 1989 alongside Tomás Carbonell with the quarter-finals.

For the Spanish Davis Cup team he came from 1992 to eleven games in a total of seven encounters, of which he was able to win six.

In 1999 he retired from professional tennis. Since then he has been working for the International Management Group , for which he currently looks after Rafael Nadal .
