Mezzadri became a professional tennis player in 1983. The following year he reached a quarter-finals on the ATP World Tour for the first time in Florence . With Gianni Ocleppo he was in a double final for the first time in 1986. 1987 was his most successful year in professional tennis. He won his first and only individual title in Geneva by beating Tomáš Šmíd in the final ; He was also able to win two double titles, including the Masters tournament in Paris . Two more times he was in a double final. In the following two years he won two more double titles and took part in two other finals.
