The 60th German International Tennis Championships took place from August 1st to August 9th, 1966 on the Rothenbaum in Hamburg .

Margaret Smith defended all three titles, this time in women's doubles with Brit Ann Jones and in mixed alongside her compatriot John Newcombe . In the men's category, Fred Stolle won both the singles and the men's doubles title with the Dane Jørgen Ulrich . He also stood at the side of Maria Esther Bueno in the mixed final. The first appearance of players from the Soviet Union in Hamburg generated interest.
