The 58th German International Tennis Championships took place from August 3 to August 11, 1964 on the Rothenbaum in Hamburg .

With Wilhelm Bungert there was Gottfried von Cramm again a German winner in the men's singles for the first time since 1949 . In addition, Christian Kuhnke made it to the final after defeating defending champion Martin Mulligan in the semi-finals . With Ken Fletcher , Bungert also reached the final in the men's doubles, which the two Spaniards Alberto Arilla and Manuel Santana won. There was another partial German success in mixed by Helga Schultze on the side of Nikola Pilić .

In the women's singles, the defending champion Renée Schuurman did not start again. Margaret Smith , who played for the first time in Hamburg, won here and only played 16 games in five rounds. She was also successful in women's doubles with her compatriot Lesley Turner against the Argentine Norma Baylon and Helga Schultze. Lesley Turner was the only player to win a title in both 1963 and 1964.
