The 47th International Tennis Championships in Germany took place from July 27th to August 2nd, 1953 on the Rothenbaum in Hamburg .

This time the event took place a week earlier than in the previous year, avoiding a clash with the German Gymnastics Festival, which is also taking place in Hamburg .

The now married US triple winner of the previous year Dorothy Knode was able to defend the title in both singles and doubles with her British partner Joy Mottram . In the mixed end game Joy Mottram lost on the side of Jean Borotra against her husband Tony Mottram , who had competed with his compatriot Pat Ward .

The men's final won the American Budge Patty , who remained in the tournament without losing a set. At the side of Gottfried von Cramm , he was also successful in men's doubles against the two Austrians Alfred Huber and Hans Redl . Redl had lost an arm in the war.
