The 70th International Tennis Championships of Germany took place from May 17 to May 23, 1976 on the Rothenbaum in Hamburg .
The tournament was part of the Grand Prix Circuit set up by the ILTF (for both men and women) .
Eddie Dibbs won the individual title in the final for the third time after 1973 and 1974 against defending champion Manuel Orantes . The defending champion Renáta Tomanová also lost in the women's final against the British Sue Barker, who appeared for the first time in Hamburg . The doubles competitions went to the Americans Fred McNair and Sherwood Stewart and the South Africans Linky Boshoff and Ilana Kloss . In the individual, the Austrian Hans Kary reached the semi-finals.
