Ilana Sheryl Kloss (born March 22, 1956 in Johannesburg ) is a former South African tennis player and chairwoman of the tennis league World TeamTennis .

Career

Before Kloss played tennis on the professional tour, she won the girls' singles at the Wimbledon Championships in 1972 and in 1974 she won the singles at the US Open for Juniors. She was also the youngest player to become number one nationwide in South Africa. In 1976 she took first place in the double world rankings. That year she won the double title at the US Open with her compatriot Delina Boshoff . They defeated Olga Morosowa and Virginia Wade 6-1 and 6-4 in the final . This was followed by tournament victories at the Italian Open , the US Clay Courts, the German Open , the British Hard Courts Championships in Hilton Head and the mixed title with Australian Kim Warwick at the French Open .

She celebrated most of the double successes with her double partner Delina Boshoff. After retiring from the WTA Tour , she took part in the over 35 tournament series, where she was victorious in the doubles and mixed competition of the US Open in 1999.

After her active career, she took over the position of CEO of the tennis league World TeamTennis in 2001 . In 2010, Kloss, who is of Jewish faith , was inducted into the International Jewish Sports Hall of Fame .

She lives in New York and Chicago with her partner, Billie Jean King .
