The 54th German International Tennis Championships took place from August 1st to 9th, 1960 on the Rothenbaum in Hamburg .

The defending champions Billy Knight and Edda Buding retired early this time. The newly crowned Wimbledon winner Neale Fraser only reached the round of 16. In the men's category, the Italian Nicola Pietrangeli won , while in the women's category , South African Sandra Reynolds won the Wimbledon revenge against Maria Esther Bueno , although the Brazilian was handicapped due to a foot injury. As the first German since Gottfried von Cramm in 1951 , Christian Kuhnke reached the semi-finals.

This time Edda Buding won the women's doubles alongside the strong Brit Christine Truman . Sandra Reynolds also won the mixed competition at the side of her compatriot Ian Vermaak against Edda Buding and the Australian Don Candy and was also in the double-finals with her compatriot Renée Schuurman . In the men's doubles, Neale Fraser and his compatriot Roy Emerson were able to prevail, but in the final they won against the ex-Yugoslavs Ladislav Legenstein and Peter Scholl , who have now been naturalized in Austria .

The 18-year-old Ingo Buding was there for the first time in Hamburg , who was able to defeat the American old master Budge Patty and only lost to Pietrangeli after five sets. This means that all four Buding siblings were on the field once at these championships; in addition to Edda, Ilse Davies and Lothar Buding , who are now married .
