Career
Carey, who in the Scottish Glasgow was born, grew up in Quebec City in the Canadian province of Quebec on. There he played for various clubs until he was 24. Among other things, he was a substitute for the Quebec Bulldogs team , which won the Stanley Cup in 1912 .
In 1916 Carey received another offer from the Bulldogs and now played a more important role than four years earlier. The Bulldogs' financial problems eventually led to their being instrumental in founding the National Hockey League , but not participating in the league for the first two seasons. By means of a dispersal draft in November 1917, the Montreal Wanderers signed the striker, who refused to run for the team. Because of his military service , Carey did not play ice hockey between 1917 and 1919. It was only when the Quebec Bulldogs started playing again in the 1919/20 season that the attacker laced his skates again, as the rights to his person were given back to the team by the league management after the return of Quebec. In 20 games he was able to collect as many scorer points.
Prior to the 1920/21 season , the Quebec Bulldogs franchise was relocated to Hamilton and renamed Hamilton Tigers . Carey decided this time to leave his adopted home Québec and was part of the team for the following two game years. Shortly after the start of the 1922/23 season , he was awarded in January 1923 for the remainder of the season to the Calgary Tigers from the Western Canada Hockey League . Another transfer finally took place in December 1923, when he was given together with Amos Arbor and Bert Corbeau in exchange for Ken Randall , the NHL rights to Corb Denneny and an undisclosed sum of money to the Toronto St. Patricks . Carey played his last season there in the 1923/24 season.
